The road to college
is built on micro-decisions,
not one big application.

Project North Star helps your family make each of those decisions in good time, from the first subject choice to the final application.

When it comes to college, everyone has an opinion.

Very few of them have met your child.

Planning, not counselling

We are not college counsellors.
We are choice architects.

Most families can plan their child's college pathway themselves, given the time and the research. Project North Star gives them both.

Our story

We didn't need an agency. We needed time.

When my daughter began exploring universities, we evaluated twelve college counselling agencies in India and abroad. Somewhere in that process, we realised we didn't need one. What we needed was time, and the right research. So our dining table became a research desk. We started with what the universities themselves published, and worked through each decision together, one at a time.

I began my career in technology at IBM, then left to help friends build an alternative to conventional high school. Later, my wife Priyadarshini and I founded Méraki People, a leadership search firm. It gives us a global view of how organisations across industries hire their leaders. Each of those years shaped how I read a child's options.

Project North Star grew out of that table. I still do the research the same way: from primary sources, with each family's circumstances at the centre.

How we answer a parent's question

We base our advice on what universities say, not what others claim.

Take a question many parents ask: should my child continue Mathematics? We start with what each university publishes, explain what it means for your child, and set out the decision worth making now.

Should my child continue Mathematics?

Published requirementFrom an official source
LSE, BSc EconomicsA standard offer of A*AA at A level with an A* in Mathematics, or 39 IB points with 766 at Higher Level and a 7 in Mathematics. The TMUA admissions test is mandatory.Source: lse.ac.uk, September 2027 entry.
What it meansFor this student
Mathematics must be taken to the highest level and needs a top grade, and a separate mathematics test has to be sat in Grade 12.
Decision to makeA micro-decision
Keep Mathematics at the highest level now, and plan time for TMUA preparation before applications open.

Independent by design

We hold no affiliation with any college or university. Our advice is shaped by your child alone.

No commissions or referral fees from any university
Every fee is published before you begin
Your child's success is theirs to celebrate, never ours to advertise
We work for families, and only for families

Is this right for your family?

We do our best work with families who like to stay involved.

A good fit if you

  • have a child in Grades 9 to 12, ideally beginning by Grade 9 or 10
  • want to understand their options and make the decisions themselves
  • are considering colleges in India, abroad, or both
  • are involved parents who want their child to own the decisions

Perhaps not the right fit if you are looking for

  • a service to hand over and step away from
  • someone to write essays or build a profile on your child's behalf
  • a guarantee of admission to a particular college
  • guidance for a master's degree, as our focus is undergraduate entry
